Gerber Freescape Campfire Saw Review

UPDATED :

WHETHER YOU LIKE TO HIT UP SERIOUS MIL-SIM EVENTS BOASTING A HIGH LEVEL OF IMMERSION OR YOU JUST LIKE TO ROCK UP AT THE WEEKEND SHOOT WELL PREPARED, GERBER HAVE A HOST OF INVALUABLE OUTDOOR TOOLS TO ALLOW YOU TO MAKE SHORT WORK OF TOUGH TASKS. THIS MONTH WE HAVE ONE OF GERBER'S NEW FREESCAPE CAMP SAWS.

GERBER FREESCAPE 12" SAW

Gerber's Freescape Camp Saw is a traditional bow saw with a difference. Instead of being big and bulky it folds down totally flat with the cutting edge entirely protected inside. What's more, unlike most folding camp saws the Freescape saw requires no tools to assemble or change the blade, it's simply pops together by hand!

So, why might you need such a folding saw? Obviously if you are camping and roughing it a bit, a saw will come in wildly useful for creating small clearings or cutting firewood down to size.

"12 Inch cutting blade with innovative four pivot points to maximise the usable cutting area"

It's quieter, neater and more efficient in terms of energy required and also the amount of wood used than an axe and unless you are highly skilled, a saw allows you to be far more precise. When it comes to getting involved in some bushcraft or general maintenance of your outdoor environment, you'll find the saw an invaluable addition to your backpack kit.

Gerber Freescape Survival Saw Features

  • Folds down flat without removal of parts.
  • Accepts standard 12" saw blade.
  • Rubber over-mould grip.
  • Innovative design.
  • Four pivot points to maximise the usable cutting area.

Gerber build the Freescape saw from perforated box section steel with hinged sections to allow it to be opened out into a rigid frame.

The replaceable (standard 12" blade) simply hooks onto the retaining hook which is threaded to adjust the tension and then the nylon fibre handle simply locks into place using a cam.

Beyond using the Gerber Freescape saw in a woodland environment, it's entirely conceivable to equip it with an alternative blade to allow you to cut through different materials.

Doing so would unlock the ability to use the saw as an urban environment breaching tool if you so required along with a truely all-round survival and multi-mission tool.

OK, so the Freescape saw might not be for everyone, especially if you prefer fast-paced CQB airsoft but if you are more inclined to get out there and enjoy the outdoors as part of your experience, be it for camping or even deep immersion during games, it's a highly useful bit of kit and has certainly secured a spot in the camping kit backpack!
