One of Meopta's relatively new riflescopes, the MeoStar R2 1-6x24 RD is purpose-built for dangerous game. It has a wide field of view (113 feet at 100 yards), which helps with fast-moving game, and with its 1 x magnification and fast-focus eypiece, it is quick to bring to bear on close-range targets. This also makes it a fitting choice for deer or hogs in tight timber.
The optic comes equipped with Meopta's RedZone 8 Illumination, which incorporates a highly visible 2 MOA red dot with eight intensity levels ranging from daylight options to dusk and beyond.
A turret on the left side of the scope adjusts intensity, with half-click positions between each brightness setting turning off the dot.
The red dot receives power from a single CR2354 battery placed underneath the turret's cap; however, a ring is also included that permits the use of smaller, more common CR2032 batteries.
The MeoStar R2 1-6x24 RD is a second focal plane scope, and elevation and windage adjustments are ½-inch at 100 yards. Clicks are audible and easily felt. The scope also incorporates a diopter for ensuring the proper focus as magnification is adjusted.
The optic features Meopta's MeoLux multi-coating for extraordinary light transmission and suppressing reflections and glare, as well as a proprietary hydrophobic lens coating to repel water, grease and other oils.
The result is a riflescope with crisp, clear views in any environment, and regardless of time of day. The scope features a rugged 30mm tube construction and is waterproof and fog-proof, but also remains lightweight at a little more than a pound.
Because of this, and because of its useful magnification range, the MeoStar R2 1-6x24 represents a perfect close- to medium-range hunting option. Price: $I,595.
